I still have a 96 BRG & tan that was going to be the wives car until i picked up a NB.
Haven't advertised it yet but was interested in this topic.
Any idea what its worth? 200K full log books, AC works well, new clutch master cylinder, roof is 3 years old but window is discoloured ( i have another roof)
All standard if any one is interested? Sorry for the hi-jack
It's the wife's car.

The ads certainly give a guide but sone of these vehicles are not as good as thy say i.e. that more likely than not and the prices in the foregoing seemed to me to be far too high. We see it on the forum- "firm price" then a few weeks later its on the way down. What we have to come to grips with is this is really in the scheme of it not much money. Genuine low K cars with log books and not modified too much will bring far better prices and sell faster. A really tired NA is probably something to avoid- too expensive too restore and make it look like a good car. The 96 NA I reckon would top out about $6.5K on a sunny day maybe.

Condition of yours will be all important, but to give you an idea snshami paid $8k for his 1997 BRG LE with 193k kms from a dealer in Dec 2010. Came with 6 months rego & service history, but needed 190k km service & IDC 200k km timing belt & water pump. Had a few minor issues, but he put a lot of work into the car in terms of rejuvinating the seats & other aspects, & installed a MX5 Plus rollbar & a modern sound system. He'd done 197k kms by Mar 2012, & advertised for $9.9k in Oct 2012 - sold in a week or so: viewtopic.php?f=73&t=55075&p=694973

Prices have continued in the direction of down and no one except buyer and seller really knows what gets handed over. As an example there is an NBp2 with 100k on the forum and it's $9k and the car looks pretty good.

In the past 2 years Ive sold an NB, an NA, an NC, and an RX7.

The NB was stock with 90k and I broke even

The NA was a highly modified '90 with 230k and sold quickly, sold it for more than I bought it for.

The NC was stock with 75k and even as the best priced on car sales and most accessible (Brisbane CBD) it took about 6 months to sell. Sold it for $6000 less than I bought it for.

The RX7 was a highly modified '99 with 100k and it sold in just a few days and I broke even. Forum sale, I didn't even get a chance to put it on car sales.

All 4 cars were in very good condition cosmetically and mechanically.

Thus I conclude;

- NC's are dropping in value very fast at the moment
- Modified cars sell faster than stock cars
- NA's are holding their value very well at the moment
- White cars sell the fastest? The RX7 and NA were white.

I bought my 90 NA6 BRG a few months ago, $2800 including hardtop. 270km, drivers leather seat stitching stuffed, couple of dents on the guards. Cost less than $500 for roadworthy. Also seems to have a long nose in it. Very happy with it.

As the values drop and cost of repair rises- it only takes a small accident to write them off so they will slowly disappear off the roads.
I was told a relatively small front on smash in an NB and the air bags go off, its $7 to replace them + the cost of repair, makes them a write off. It also makes them an Excocet donor :D .
There will be less of the rough daily drivers as time goes on until they become scarce and maybe values level off.
Values of MGBs for instance have dropped off over the last 5 years, my mates National concourse winning B value is dropping - he has been unable to sell it.

Always thought airbags would cost more than that.

That was the figure I was told - someone would have experience with the actual cost. I 've an NA so not a problem - though I would want them in a prang.

Takes a fair whack to set the airbags off.

Airbags can do a lot of harm to a person, so manufacturers tend to set them up so that they only deploy when really needed (ie: life or death accident)

My NB had a hit to the front a few months back, radiators support etc pushed back, radiator broken, power steering lines gone, it all stopped just short of engine and subframe.

Airbags didn't deploy (thankfully)

It was pretty much 50/50 if the car was to be written off or not, thankfully it was repaired.

Sorry you had to yell - I meant $7k
I saw an NB, the bumper was pushed in when it hit a post, it was crushed to the radiator and the bags had gone off.
