BC V1 or BR Racing Coilovers

i can only speak for BC BR adjustable coil-overs with 8kg front and 6kg back springs.
for me they transformed the way my car drives.
it corners flatter and not so much bouncing around mid corner bumps.
dampener adjustment goes from way too bouncy to way too hard so i am sure for street use anyone will find the setting that suits the driving style.
height adjustment is,i don't know how high ,but will go low enough to scrap every speed bump(below legal).
i have never had any noises or squeaks so far.
in Brisbane, i had them installed ,4 wheel alignment,wheel balance and geometry custom set by people that know MX5s...for about the same cost as aftermarket shocks and king springs.

so in short i say they are great for your daily drive

This has been covered a thousand times but i would be interested to hear how long time users find them holding up.

I have BC ER's I started with 8/6 however have changed to 9/6 and more than happy with the handling.

What you need to do is have them set up properly, you will appreciate the car more if this is done right. Set the length first then adjust height via pre-load.

What do you want to use the car for? I swapped from Tein SS to BC V1 and it is more compliant on the track but I feel I need to uprate the front springs. I think I will try a 10/6 combo (very little street use though).

I use the BC V1 coilovers in my NA6 and fined them great for the road. on th etrack the damping could be a bit better, but my car is set up more for road than track so I am more than happy with the V1's as the damping is a lot softer than the more track orientated coilovers.

Also, the Mx5 prefers a softer damping than firmer to get the most out of the car, so I would recommend the V1 series as a very good all round starting point.

I plan to use it purely for the road, I love the look of lowered cars. Not into the whole lets make it scratch the floor but I do like low. I got into contact with JustJap and they recommended the V1s as well. I might go with it instead of the other ones. I was under the impression that the BR coilovers were updated versions of the V1 and for only $100, I didn't want to purchase an inferior one to my needs. So this is making me very happy! How about spring rates?

Never considered them cause I've never heard of them haha. Always hear about BC Racing being good though!

BR coilovers have a larger diameter upper dampener body than the V1 .
so BR coilovers hold more oil which is better for overall performance.
off the shelf 8kg front and 6kg rear .
if you want to wait for custom spring rates you can order whatever you want

Only more expensive if you get the reds. BRs are pretty closey priced to the blues.
If you haven't looked into mca's I suggest you do it. They have been making suspension for rally cars for years and our now expanding their business. Check out their website. Mcasuspension.com

What's the difference between BR Type RS and BR Type RA? Is one a newer version or something?
[EDIT] Found my answer on another thread, sorry. But still +1 for MCA

MCA coilovers are great and there's the local customer service available if you have questions.... But I've only tried them on a 2013 WRX.

Damn there is some man love for MCA coilovers on this forum lately...

I'm not dissing them, and full disclosure, I have never dríven an MCA equipped car (would love to). But what I want to know is, have any of you actually back-to-backed them with BCs?

The fact is MCA blues are still $200-$300 more than BC BR units. They are actually comparable in price to BC ERs which are infinitely more adjustable.

My experience with BC BR units is very, very good. Yes they're Taiwanese, but they are very well made and properly adjusted, they are very fast on the track and ride very well on the road. The most balanced MX5 I have ever dríven was fitted with a nicely set up set of BRs.

I have never tried the V1 units but for the price difference, just get BRs (or even ERs).

For my NB8a, I am holding out for funds for the MCA Blues for a couple of reasons.

When they start selling a shock for a car they set one car up, checking valving, spring rates and ride height. So when you purchase a MCA Blue shock it has been set up based on a car similar to mine.
I don't believe the same is true of the BC's but please correct me if I am wrong.
I also like that MCA are not looking to make the car lowest possible but to maximize performance within the shock travel and bump stop.
I know it is not possible to set up a shock for the correct height off the car but if a supplier can get me closer to the right starting point I think that is worth while.

The spring rates they are using get me a little worried but all the feed back I have read and spoken to people about seems to suggest they are ok for the street.
Time will tell (I hope later this year).

I can't speak for BC but if they guessed the damping and spring rates, they did a damn good job.

I know someone running a top shelf time attack car who recently moved from Ohlins to BC ER (on a Skyline GTR). That tells you something - We are not talking OBX or Megan Racing here.

I actually have a dyno chart for BC BR (MX5) coilovers somewhere - I'll try to dig it up when I get home.
