Kalt seems to think feelings/response to the final product may have been based on "expectations".
Speaking for myself, I had no 'expectations' about what the result would be, and I certainly don't care whether Mazda sell 100 or 1 million of them.
I hoped for something "inspiring", given that the NA & NB were pretty good designs, and the MX5 is a concept that deserves a great shape.
"Inspiring" to me means that the overall proportions would be ascetically pleasing and the relationship between the various elements would be harmonious.
I hoped that the 'detail' work, headlights, taillights, powermouth, wheels etc would be clean and well proportioned shapes, would fit together well, and would contribute to a coherent totality for the car.
The side profile is good, and not as heavy-looking in the rear as you might be inclined to think from some of the 3/4 views.
The overall shape of the boot and bonnet are also good.
The elements done less well are the head & tail lights and the powermouth - the latter which is very heavy-handed on all the other models as well.
