Re: 2015 Bathurst 12 hour
Awesome day is an understatement..
Good drive out dogging the low clouds through the mountains (linton)....
a good sticky break through the pits, a lap of the track for lunch. Skyline for qualifying then swung by Dave n Gaynors room for some a/c comfort in the afternoon.
Then bailed up by a bunch of young amg guys with all their team kit on complimenting my mx and wanting to take photos of it lol!

You can hide a lot of people around 6km of track. Also endurance racing tends to more battles of lap times and pit strategy rather than on track battles.

Great to see Nissan win again at Bathurst - always felt sorry for them after they built Godzilla to win, only to have the rules changed to exclude them (they didn't do that for the Ford Sierra Cosworths which you couldn't even buy here).

Excellent race, when the super taxis die I hope the 12 hr keeps getting the air time.
I love the strategy and the reliability needed to keep a car on the lead lap for 12 hrs.
Nice to see Nissan king of the mountain again after 25 yrs.

Re: 2015 Bathurst 12 hour
The Bentley got 'helped' out of the way, so I hear ... driving standards need a good look, too many incidents of poor driving, not just in lapped cars either.
The 'Mazda' is a tube frame car, just like the stupidcars. Big hit, I was standing a couple of metres away and glad I wasn't any closer. LOTS of speccies at that point too (Macphillamy).
I missed last year, but this year there were more people there on Saturday than race day 2013. Race day was very well attended, getting to the point where you can't get to the fenceline for people in some places, especially Macphillamy, and made worse by people placing their gazebos right on the fence, not just shutting people out, but spoiling the views for people at the back. Campsite inside was sold out, opening more outside the circuit, gotta queue in the amentities now too
They have also erected more safety fencing, some of it nice and shiny
which has not helped the viewing, and totally ruined many of the good photo spots.
But I will be back ...

Re: 2015 Bathurst 12 hour
My 2 cents worth:
I have been the last 3 years and I think there was twice as many spectators as last year as most of the good vantage points were crowded from early in the day.
Yes the campsite is chockers and having to line up for a hot cubicle is not nice, but there were none of the "party all night and sleep all day" groups that were there last year - maybe they were at SMSP.
I had grandstand tickets, the start is sensational, but left an hour after as the noise level was too great for my ears ( forgot ear plugs/ radio) and unless you were under the partial shade at the back it got too hot. We came back to the GS for the finish.
It was 40C last year and 35C on Sunday so that is too hot for me to enjoy ( I have trouble over 26C).
Whilst I love the atmosphere - being woken up by a brapping V12 warming up in the pits and then eating breaky with the exotic race cars blasting up Mountain straight 10m from our camp site is special.
I enjoyed chatting to John Bowe at the Thursday Night dinner about the Bentleys and Betty Klimenko and Hubby stopped at our camp and had a chat - They had come from SMSP and it was interesting to hear his opinion on the Test Day. they are proud of their team.
I did not enjoy the car carnage, the Safety Car would have need a refuel and tyre change, the support classes particularly Imp Prod probably only got 2 full racing laps, which would have disappointed the cars that came all the way from Darwin to race the locals.
I think I will watch it on TV next year as I can sit in A/C and do something during the 4 hrs of Safety Cars.
It is only going to get bigger and better, so it is an event motor sport fans should have in their bucket.

Re: 2015 Bathurst 12 hour
I was recording the coverage on my PVR. I slept in until 9am...walked the dog...pottered around the house a little and started watching around 10:30 using the time shift to skip through the commercials and safety cars to minimise the boring parts.
I enjoyed the race and the coverage for the most part. My only gripe is to just put it one channel and leave it there - towards the end of the day when the coverage switched back to 7Mate for the last hour even the EPG didn't know what was going on.
Hopefully Channel 7 will cover the race again next year and for years to come as with V8 Supercars moving to PayTV this year and F1 next year it might be the only event we get to watch on free to air.

Re: 2015 Bathurst 12 hour
Time for some photos ...
Early morning Ferrari

Ouch!

... and this is how it should be done, no touchee, plenty of racing room by both drivers!

That is the Vicious Rumour Ferrari in the last, they came back from starting stone motherless last to finish 6th and best Ferrari!
