I reckon it does make a difference at higher speeds, I did the same to my NB and that entire strip normally hangs down in the breeze...Any real advantage to be gained would come with managing airflow under the car though.

Should be okay. It really needs harder engine mounts though.

Can't remember the numbers exactly. But before he put on the extra external waste gate it was making about 450hp at 4000 or so rpm. He got it down to 380hp at 7000rpm. Also even less power/torque depending what gear it is in.
All pretty useless in a car that just sits in the garage.

450@4000rpm would need around 40psi..?

I found the txt.
374hp@6000rpm 18psi.
380lbft at full boost.
292hp at 5700rpm.
270lbft at min boost 7lb. Turbo rated for 370hp - maxed out compressor. Inj maxed out too. Rev limit at 7000.

He said 330hp is about the limit for the trans.

An interesting photo I took that shows the behavior people talk about with stockish SE's.

You can see the low (yellow) line starts very low hp, and when the ecu goes open loop after emmissions testing rpm we get a bit of turbo HP for less than 1000rpm then hit the low redline.

I havnt seen dyno's for these cars just dríven them but I now have this one to show people. This car had the common ebay larger intercooler and a full 2.5" exhaust.

Cool huh

That's my car (the yellow line, not the purple sadly :( )
Every stock SE driver can relate to that graph.
Amazing the difference an ECU will make to these cars power and drivability!

NitroDann certainly knows his stuff with these, was cool hanging out watching him do his thing :D

How did you find the Elite1500 Dann? Are you becoming a fan or still keen on MegaSquirt.

The "usual" bolt-on SE performance mods are CAI+larger exhaust+bumping the boost to 10psi + larger injectors (305/315/321cc); the intercooler isn't a performance mod.
With these mods, users can expect at least 145rwkw (194rwhp) but the car will run like crap since the factory ECU cannot cope with this increase (the stock SE supposedly puts out ~110rwkw/147rwhp).
The larger exhausts adds ~10rwkw whereas the CAI + boost increase adds ~25rwkw which is closer to the purple line.

The graph nicely illustrates the benefit of an aftermarket ECU.
- are you going to put in any more effort between 3100..3650rpm to flatten it out more?

NB with stock internals @ 257.7rwhp - this should be pumping out on your stereo at the track:

Torque is also represented and as you can see its going to be just fine. :)

Thread-surrection!

Thought Id throw up some recent pics and let everyone ask questions and discuss the variables. Lots of people are interested in what parts go into producing these results, and the process and costs involved.

So here is the engine bay:

Image

And the Dyno Sheet:

Image

And the Compliance Certificate (Engineering cert.):

Image

What it has that it NEEDS for the performance.

Edexy HD Organic
GT2560r
Manifold/downpipe exhaust (even a log and 2.5" could achieve this with more boost)
Standalone ECU (MS2)
ECU based electronic boost control
FMIC kit
Big injectors (overkill ID1000 in this case)
Oil feed and return
Air filter setup (tube and pod)

Options for reliability:
Reroute (water flow and temperature management)
Radiator (as above)
Braided oil AND water lines (Keeps the turbo bearings cool after shutdown)
Inconel studs/Stage8 locking hardware (keeps the turbo on the manifold and the downpipe on the turbo, no exhaust leaks at the track)
Exhaust flex pipe and brace (keeps the swinging exhaust forces which are HUGE off the turbo hardware)
Resbond locking compound (keeps the studs in the turbo)
Mazdaspeed engine mount on the turbo side (turbo side is the one that breaks)

Options for legal certification:
Euro4 cat (to help pass IM240)
Airbox intake (needed for street use)
Recirculated blow off valve (keeps the noise down)
Big muffler (to pass sound test, its still straight through however and sounds awesome- I recommend this exhaust option whether engineering or not)

Overkill options because why not:

Frame rails (protect the oem rails)
Walbro intank pump (the OEM one is great but this one was worn out so we stepped it up)
Toyota COPS (gives great starts and lets us completely forget about possible misfires even if the plugs are a little dirty, its a hot day, and we are flogging the tits off of it)

Then there are a series of tests that the car has to pass and its back on the road legal.

Feel free to ask tech questions about any of it.
