Which is why the 'drop your worst round' thing exists?

I like the current class points system, possibly coloured by having had good results under that system in 2013 & 2014.

It rewards more than just car/driver speed. To win a class you have to:
- at least be able to do laptimes similar to your rivals
- be on top of the admin work to register for the championship and enter rounds
- maintain your car so that it is reliable and consistently fast
- organise peripheral matters so that you and your car get to the circuits ready for action.

Last year Ed and I had a great battle in 4B, which produced a 1 point difference.
At his best Ed was probably faster than me, but at one round he couldn't bring his main race car, due to problems with the tow vehicle, and he had to use his other (slower) MX-5, and so ended up 3rd rather than the usual 1st or 2nd. So while I am sorry for his misfortune, I think the outcome was correct. Sorry Ed!

I just ignore the type results, as it is tough for A or B capacity cars to do well, unless your name is Stewart :-)

To put David's comments in perspective, last year I won 4 rounds, David won two, and A. N. Other won one. David triumphed, by one point, but as he said, he had a bit more luck than me.

Good outcome? Well, consistency won over speed (ahem  ), but the bottom line is that David did the job better than I did over the whole season, looking at all the factors he mentioned. I am happy with the outcome because I know that I could have, and should have, done better.

Would I like a points score that better reward wins? Only if it is retrospective to last year  - that is, no. Last year, my/David's experience was that the points reward the chaser, and give someone who is consistently shadowing the class leader a realistic chance of knocking off the leader.

I should add that the previous year (I think), when I was a more comfortable points leader, I still could have been knocked off by a much slower car, consistently running around 3rd to 6th, quietly building up points every round. That might have required me missing two rounds (I don't remember the details), but it was certainly a possibility. Would that have been a good outcome? I know I would not have liked it (just like I did not like last year), but the thing is, you need to do the business over the whole season so he would have earned his result (in that hypothetical case).

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
