The next MX-5 Club of NSW track day will be at Sydney Motorsport Park on Saturday 29th August, using the South Circuit.
http://nsw.mx5.com.au/events/club-track-day-and-interstate-challenge-sydney-motorsport-park-south-circuit
This will be the first event of the 2015/2015 competition year, and it will also be the NSW/Vic Interstate Challenge event for 2015. After those dastardly Vics won the trophy back last year, it is essential that the NSW team is again triumphant on our home turf.
I anticipate that entries will open in late June, and it will be announced to NSW club members via the NSW club weekly email, and also on this forum.
As always with SMP track days, we will need plenty of volunteers to help with marshaling and officiating, so if you or someone you know can help, please contact me here or via my club email (available via the event page linked above).
Following the track day we will hold the presentations for the 2014/2015 competition year in the SMP "Garage 51" cafe.

Re: MX-5 Club Track Day - Sat 29th Aug 2015 - SMP South Circ
Flaggies are needed for this club track day (tomorrow).
If you have participated in motorsport, spending a day as a flaggie is a great thing to do, to:
- give back to the sport that helped you get out on track
- see the action from the other side of the fence, it is a great perspective, near the action
- give you a better understanding and familiarity of what flags are used when for your next track outing
- because it is fun! Plus you get a free lunch and snack pack.
If you are not a participant but are interested in motorsport, it is a great day out for all the above reasons too!
If interested please contact David Lawler David Lawler david.mx5@oznook.com or myself Craig - cpd@tag.com.au 0411 234 794

Re: MX-5 Club Track Day - Sat 29th Aug 2015 - SMP South Circ
Mike and Zan were not there running the show today, but David made sure no one could tell the difference. The day was as smooth and well run as always. Thank you David and all the officials and volunteers that helped make today's trackday happen!
Here is the footage of my big off today right in front of the pits at SMP South circuit.
Basically, the car over steered mid corner and, to hold it, I had to go wide and put two wheels over the ripple strip. The uneven terrain made the car bounce and go into a slide back onto the track, at which point the front suspension sank on the tarmac giving the front tyres plenty of grip to quickly spin the car the other way around throwing it towards the pit wall. At that point I was no longer in control and just hit the brakes hard. Once it completed the spin, I was still moving towards the tyre wall, now in reverse, and the brakes were not being effective to stop the car. Front brakes don't have much stopping power in reverse and rear brakes were not holding the car enough. I had just enough time to engage first gear and accelerate, in an effort to stop the car. Still in low revs, the engine had just enough power to spin the rear tyres forward a few times before it stalled... but it had worked!! In my left mirror you can see how close the back of the car got to the tyres.

Nice save there Gus. That is one of the places that track will bite you, to do a good time you need to be on that ripple strip but drop a wheel and that wall is close than any other point on the circuit.
Echoing your comment, well done to David, Ian Williams and Jean for keeping the wheels rolling smoothly over the day as usual, great job.

Awesome day!!
I only managed 3 runs before my PS Hose burst, Yet again!!

Still had a Blast and managed a PB.
I had to replace a rear upper control arm the night before and i think this changed my alignment quite a lot.
On Left hand turns i had a crazy amount of Oversteer.
I think i had some serious Toe Out at the rear which made it quite a Manic Drive.

Very close call there Gus!
What was the score in the Interstate Challenge?
NSW 130 VIC 94
NSW wins the cup!!!
It was incredibly close in Class 4 (Clubman). Only 0.3s separated 1st from 4th. And only 0.1s between 1st and 3rd!!! Love the close competition in this class.

Re: MX-5 Club Track Day - Sat 29th Aug 2015 - SMP South Circ
Great day out there yesterday, I had a ton of fun chasing Phil and Russ around the place, unfortunately Ralph was so far in front he was nowhere to be seen
I knew there were a few improvements to be made in my lines as I’d only been there once before and had time to figure out the mistakes I’d been making on my first outing. Ended up getting a bit over a second of my previous PB with a 1:03.62.
Unfortunately I had my GoPro on the wrong setting so the videos were way too washed out in the midday session when I got my PB but I got a watchable video of a 1:03.79 chasing Phil Ashton around the track.
Thanks David and crew for making it all happen yesterday!

Re: MX-5 Club Track Day - Sat 29th Aug 2015 - SMP South Circ
another brilliantly run day with no delays and what felt like endless track time, well done to all
Similar to Dan this was only my second real day at the South circuit and knew there was some time to find from last time. I had changed to MCA from Yellowspeed and the rear bar back to 14mm from 16 and it was a much easier car to drive. I was very happy to take 1.4 out of my best down to 1.01.945
Two highlights of the day was taking the ND out for a maiden run and a couple of quality sessions chasing/being chased by Verne. We were both trying pretty hard and I remember looking in my rear vision mirror a couple of times and seeing some quality power slides

Here is my contribution to the media collection. The video shows a couple laps from my 4th run. The first is a 1:08.3399 and then a new PB of 1:08.2659. Lots of screaming from the tortured KU36s but they're proving to be remarkably quick.

Looks like it was a good day of friendly competitive Motorsport. Pity I couldn't make it, the "SE" might have done ok.
Will be taking it on the 12th to Phillip Island, so don't feel too bad.
