Suspension Setup Baseline

Postby Chris15 » Mon Oct 05, 2015 10:06 am

Hi all, I am chasing data/figures that I can present to a wheel alignment joint for a initial setup to be done on my NA6.

Basically I bought the car off a "boy racer" who had put some good stuff in it but had it dumped on to the bump stops and maxed out pre-load etc... for maximum JDM street appeal.

The gear that I'm running is:

STD Coilovers.
Strut Brace.
Adjustable Sway bar 24mm (Front) & 16mm (Rear)

This goes with some track/street 205/45/16 tyres.

What I want is to set the car up with a basic setup (track effective) as I suspect the toe in/out, camber and alignment is going to be all over the place at the moment. Once I have this I will dial it in on the track.

Also I am chasing the man to do it. Can anyone recommend a reputable wheel alignment shop in Perth that has experience with MX5 setups for the track.

Thanks in advance.

Madjak is likely to be able to point you in the right direction for someone out west with skill in aligning.

What Zossy1 said.

What works for me, running AD08's track oriented and occasional daily drive NA6 is

Front
-3.5 camber and 1 toe in, 7 deg caster

Rear
-3.0 camber and 1.5mm toe out

Car is at about 128mm at the pinch welds. When getting alignment done make sure the drivers weight is in the seat (or the driver)

Great info, Cheers.

Can anyone recomend a place to get it done in Perth. Figure there might be someone who is more farmiliar setting up the MX5's for track use.

What tyres will you run on the track as this may have an impact on alignment. R Specs do like more camber.

I will be fitting Goodride Sport RS Semi Slick 205/45/16 once I find a place to do it.

Those tyres are not a R Spec tyre and they have a wear rating of 180. This is a similar wear rating to Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 and Federal 595 RSR's which are 140 UTQG, these are non R spec tyres.

R Spec tyres are like DZ03's, Advan A050, R888's, NT01's (UTQG 100), FZ201's (UTQG 40)...

Personally I would go the AD08's and this hurts as I really enjoyed the grip of the FZ201's!

Yeah your right they are not R Spec. I definatley went off the idea of R Spec tyres once I learned they push me into competing in a class that is dominated by turbo 1.8's. The little 1600 is quick but its never going to be 250hp.

Having said that I will be getting some A050's for some fun when my 15" Braid Wheels arrive.

If you haven't already found someone, Steve Lee @ KYP Automotive is the go to guy for MX5 work in Perth, but not sure if he does wheel alignments:
