yeah got him out of the wreck and nothing other than his ego was hurt and a bit of road rash on his arm, although he had no insurance which is a pity

so, still waiting on customs to hurry up and give me my stuff, but, in the mean while ive gotten bored and decided to clean up the ports on the head aswell as polish them, machine work will be done in the next few weeks aswell so head should be going on soon.

everyone says different things about polishing the ports but seeing as i dont see why there would be any issue in doing so i have done just that, Image

if someone gives me good enough reason as to why its no good, i can always hit it with some 400 grit or the sandblaster ;)

actually going to hit the intake ports with the sandblaster to roughen them up a bit, main reason for the polishing was to see how close the intake profiles were to eachother and they were almost spot on so time to get em back a bit rough

I need new brakes, mind sharing where you got the rotors? Sounds like a great price.
The picture of the ITB's all mounted up makes me all tingly inside.

sadly, the place has stopped listing the ones i ordered, i ordered the T2 rotors, and they sent me the T3 rotor for who knows what reason
the T2 were 50$ a corner and the T3 are 180$ a corner, maybe they re listed the T2 but they are called spares box (online site only and australian aswell, pretty sure they are melbourne way!)

Sweet. The reason that the ports aren't meant to be polished on the intake side is that turbulence in small doses is good, it creates a better environment for fuel to disperse in the air prior to the chamber, creating a better burn. Also less likely to have lean spots etc.

quick update, ITBs are back together after a quick clean up. just to get them all re surfaced and then synchronized :) working well, had a few issues with reassembly however it was just the butterfly shafts were a bit off center causing the butterflies to rub against the intake bore. now to get the adapter plate anodized and in time assemble the head.

However, I'm having issues with finding someone who can regrind my cams coming into the Christmas break. not gonna go with Tighe cams, have seen some dodgy things happen to them after some abuse or even general use. anyone know of any decent places to get cams reground in aus, I've spoken with Auckland cams as well, waiting on a response,

is there much difference in the finished product?
i was looking at billets but regrinds coming in at 350$ to my door for custom grinds is a good option as i can just get two pairs done for the price of one billet if i wanted to have another option

Regrinds essentially have material added then reshaped. Essentially it is a possible weak point where the new material is added.

Speaking with a person that has built a 300 RWHP naturally aspirated 3ltr BMW, why skimp on parts to save a few bucks and introduce a potential weak point. Trust me these people know how to build a solid reliable high performance engine.

With welded regrinds, yes. Though done right, there is nothing wrong with welded regrinds. I wouldn't use them in a race motor but they're generally fine for a street car.

There are plenty of race cars running unwelded regrinds though. Going smaller on the base circle is not a big deal if you're running SUBs, though there is a limit to how small you can go which can limit the amount of lift or duration you can yield without welding. Just make sure you find a decent cam grinder who will do a good job of the case hardening - this is the secret to good regrinds.
