Mystery component
I've just bought a 1999 MX5 NB2 in nice condition. However, there is a strange plastic component in the glove compartment (see images).
It is effectively a semicircular section of pipe, about 6.5 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm long, with an outward taper at one end. It is clean, so more likely comes from inside the car/boot rather than under the bonnet. Can anyone please tell me what it is for? Cheers, John. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Mystery component
Looks like the bit that covers the base of the steering column, down where it goes through the firewall.
I knocked mine off with my foot during a motorkhana, it also resides in the glovebox now

Re: Mystery component
Thanks for that - spot on - it's now back in place but it seems a singularly useless piece of plastic! I'm now waiting to see how long it takes to return to the glove box! Cheers and thanks again.
