Thats great news, thanks Ryan. I have one still attatched to the astina out front i can use. I did consider it at one time but for some reason dismissed it.
The main worry with brake mods is liability in an accident. I could imagine it would be an easy assumption for crash investigators to blame illegal brake mods when devoid of a clear cause, or in a case of my word against "mr. Standard cars'".That said, i have upgraded to na8 brakes and will be playing with the master thanks to info provided. It's not a huge jump to ditch the booster. I drove the astina around for a week or so after itb install without booster hooked up and i was impressed with braking ability, a number of times successfully avoiding unexpected overzealous marsupial advances.

You can even use the clutch master if it is still attached to the shell also.3gress wrote:Thats great news, thanks Ryan. I have one still attached to the astina out front i can use. I did consider it at one time but for some reason dismissed it.

madjak wrote:I meant that when you hit the brakes, the vacuum in the booster must get used up and released somehow otherwise it would replenish the reservoir after the brake is released. On my car, when under race conditions, the time the engine spends in vacuum is minimal as I'm shifting fast and blipping down through the gears under brakes. I can see now how a reservoir would make little difference unless the engine is spending enough time in vacuum to build up a buffer. It highlights just how bad running a car with a booster is when you have silly cams / ITBs.
I did look at vacuum pumps as an option, but then it adds complexity and another failure point. I figured most serious race cars don't run a booster... if bigger cars can do it, a light MX5 should be ideal.
For your vacuum pump, how about a vacuum pressure switch that turns off the pump when it hits a threshold of vacuum.
Something like this but cheaper:

Yeah you're right, but I am an old fart who needs all the help he can get ...

My system is plumbed with the pump drawing from the reservoir, which is in turn drawing from the booster. Pressure is equalised in both the booster and the reservoir but the volume is much larger.
The pump has a pressure switch already, so I can pump out the reservoir/booster, it switches off, and then I wait ... and wait ... and the pump does not come on. But touch the brakes, and it comes on pretty much straight away, confirming that there are no (appreciable) leaks.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
