Finally in a position to post the dates for the 2016 MX-5 Cup season.
January 30 MRA Round 1
May 7/8 AASA Round 1
May 22 MRA Round 2
June 26 MRA Round 3
August 14 MRA Round 4
October 23 FOSC South
Not ideal with the short lead up to the first race and gap to round 2, but we have a 6 round series to play in again.
Will update all the Docs on the MX-5 Club of NSW website shortly.

Re: 2016 MX5 Cup - Dates and Entry Info

Like a few extra Christmas kilos, the start of the 2016 MX-5 Cup season has snuck up without us even noticing!
We have an earlier than usual start to the season due to some challenges scheduling the meetings this year, the first race is on January 30th, just a few weeks away (thanks for putting the dates up Chris)! For those returning to the series, you know what you need to do. Cars to prep, entries to get in, probably best to get that race suit dry cleaned too and if you're looking to improve your power-to-weight ratio, the answer is probably right in front of you... hanging over your belt.
For those newbies that are joining us for the first time, welcome aboard!! If you're new to racing, congratulations on making the leap, prepare to have your nomex socks blown off!!... Which brings us neatly to what are you going to need to get started?
In a nutshell its:
Car prepped and log booked
Race licence sorted
Racing gear purchased (suit, boots, helmet etc).
There's some great info for first timers on the MX-5 Club website in the MX-5 Cup section:
http://nsw.mx5.com.au/motorsport/mx-5-cup
Have a thorough read through this info, its been painstakingly put together to give a good intro. As ever though, you might have some specific questions about your car, your set up, your gear - feel free to post your questions here to tap into the wealth of experience and knowledge that's on the forum or if you'd like an answer from a committee member. Contact details are here:
http://nsw.mx5.com.au/motorsport/mx-5-cup/contact
Don't hesitate to ask a question if you're unsure, no such thing as a silly question, everything is obvious once you know it. Any first timers wanting a designated contact for questions and pointers, please let us know and we will appoint someone to help you, in the lead up to the weekend and on race day.
ENTRIES
There are 2 things you need to enter, the MX-5 Cup championship and the specific round with MRA.
IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY SUBMITTED YOUR ENTRY FOR THE 2015 MX-5 CUP
get it in NOW to get in on the action, and reserve your race number! This puts you in the running for the championship.
Entry forms can be found on the MX-5 Club website here:
http://nsw.mx5.com.au/motorsport/mx-5-cup/downloads
For the specific round you need to submit your entry with MRA. Entry form can be found here:
http://entry.motorrace.com.au/entry/index.cfm
Get busy, prep, polish and get entering!
Look forward to seeing you all in less than a month.

Re: 2016 MX5 Cup - Dates and Entry Info
Less than 2 weeks to go to round 1!
The car got some lovin' yesterday at Deckspeed (thanks Daniel!). Getting my entry in today and getting pretty pumped!
Decided to take a trip down memory lane, posting my vid from the first round last year. Some great, hard, fair racing. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and some new ones in the mix.

Re: 2016 MX5 Cup - Dates and Entry Info
MX-5 Cup round 1 for 2016 has been run and won.
I had a fun day down the back of the field, although it was very very disappointing when the event was cancelled due to the heavy run, meaning we missed out on our 4th race. A wet track could have been a great equaliser!
I have put a couple of videos on youtube, and would appreciate any feedback, particularly on racecraft, as that is an area where I have much to learn.
First, half a lap during qualifying with a fun slide at turn 5, then a slightly more scary moment just after turn 9
This is race 1, as seen from my car. Lots of footage of the back end of Carl's Red NC :-)

Nice shots Rob, thanks for posting those, It's always great to see the action from outside the car!
Good vids David. You're certainly looking nice and smooth on the whole, the car looks nicely balanced. Racecraft wise, there wasn't really a lot you could do against a 2.5. you're only chance was at the 4:20 mark when Carl lost momentum at turn 2, you probably could have forced the point a little more in turn 3 and made him go 2 wide through 4... but nothing wrong with a bit of discretion, you'd need a bit of track history with the other driver to force the point.
My vids are full of missed gears and lost opportunities so I don't think i'll subject everyone to them... except one brown pants moment of Andy ending broadside on the racing line through turn 9. That got my attention!

Re: 2016 MX5 Cup - Dates and Entry Info
Thanks Stu.
That opportunity at turn 3 was tempting, but as you said, discretion was the best choice, especially given my lack of experience.
In the 2nd race I got the jump off the start on Carl and for 2 laps was able to pull enough of an advantage through turns 3 to 6 that he couldn't get me on the straight.
Unfortunately I stuffed up turn 4 on the 3rd lap and we ended up side-by-side at the end of the straight and through turn 2, and he had the extra grunt to get in front by turn 3. Damn-it!
When do we see your brown pants moment?

Re: 2016 MX5 Cup - Dates and Entry Info
Yeah, that was one of the big differences that struck me when I first started racing. If you make a mistake on one lap when you're super sprinting, it doesn't matter because you probably had a better one in the bank. If you make one mistake racing it ruins your whole race. Definitely makes you more disciplined and hard on yourself.
I'm away for work at the moment so don't have the vids on me... I'll just send you the pants instead.
