30 years for club rego in Queensland at the moment, and the rego is very restictive for use. There doesn't seem to be any rush to move to the log book system being abused in Victoria, successfully used in SA and trialled in NSW at the moment for us up here in Queensland. Leaves me in a quandary as to what to do when it is time to register my old Charger.
Mark, personally, I would look at going the way you are planning, if I understand correctly that the blue car will return to a more user friendly road spec and the shell becomes the track car.
First thing to do is work out what you want to do with the car on the track. Do you just want to do time attack? do some street sprints and hillclimbs or go door to door racing? This will determine what you need to do from there in terms of how the car is built and what if any, log books are needed. Get this sorted and the final spec of the car done before you start to do more than get the shell bare. Depending on what you want to do, you may have to take into consideration specific rules to suit the desired use. Case in point for my S14, I need to keep a lot of body structure that if it was built for sports sedans (CAMS) or to be run in the QR Outlaws series i would cut out to save weight. As I am running a CAMS sweries i have the rule book for that category to work to. If I was to run in IPRA, then the build would have been done completely differently in terms of panels, engine, gearbox, suspension and wheels and tyres.
Also, if you want to have a boosted motor and play Pros Sports it has to be an exact replica of either an SE or SP to be legal, including both inlet and exhaust manifolds and turbo, plus the other restrictions on the category. If you want to play QR racing then enjoy and do what you want, but note at CAMS events like hill climb championships and what not the class you end up ii may not be the one you expect to run in depending on modifications.
Work out what it is you want to do and at what events and build to those, don't try to do a compromise car as it won't work. i.e time attack that suits Prod psorts, won't work.
On a side note, the latest issue of race magazine had a nice picture and mention of your car at WTAC this year, though they did underquote the power by a bit saying 100rwkw
