Car repaired from Gary's off at Lakeside last month. Tail shaft problem rectified, trailer booked and wheel alignment Tuesday. Looking good.

Lookin' better than good! It heartens me that this can be done. Maybe I can worry less myself about damaging my aging ride.

Yeah, will be a shame if you can't make it. Would have loved to do some runs in front or behind - we're a good match and it makes for a fun day when you've got closely matched cars on such a great track. Hope it works out!

Would you believe the whole repair was under $1000?

Yeah I would Cal - I had my NB done maybe a year ago after a vicious and violent letterbox attacked it! I will PM you as to who did the repair and cost - NFP on any website but he will look after any MX-5 owners for those small bingles

What are people doing about fire extinguisher mounts? I gather the most popular mount is a bit of plate between the passenger seat front mounts. I found an aluminium beam under the glovebox that I managed to mount the extinguisher to (which I can still reach from the driver seat with my belt done up) but I'm concerned that won't be deemed sufficient for scrutineering purposes.

Technically it needs to be mounted securely enough not to move in a 25G impact. Presumably where ever it's mounted, the scrutineers just yank on it and make sure it doesn't move. If that beam moves or bends, which iirc it does pretty easily, it won't be acceptable.

I stuck my extinguisher on the front passenger seat mounts and have removed the passenger seat, hopefully no passenger seat will be ok for scrutineering, if not i'll stick the seat back in but would like front seat bolts to be a bit longer with extinguisher in place. Thread engagement is reduced with extinguisher bracket.

Yeah, saw the 25g requirement and figured that'd be an issue. I of course have one longer bolt that fits the passenger seat bolt hole with the steel plate I was experimenting with. Had considered removing the passenger seat.

Yep, I'll visit Bolt Masters and buy a couple of longer bolts this week on the way home from work. I was lucky that my car came supplied with a steel bracket for extinguisher. I was just a bit shabby so I wire brushed it and repainted.

Car is back home, spent the week at Plus getting tweaked and adjusted.

Headed up the MCA to discuss suspension, dropped some parts off as well. Busy day!

Getting it ready for Morgan Park, swapping splitter/wheels and getting 'stuff' organised. Should be interesting to load on the trailer as the smaller splitter scrapes now!

I am sorted for both days of the weekend, Ruth and I staying overnight Saturday. Hopefully we'll finish the Turbonator in time for me to oil change and put in some front pads before Saturday.
