Love it!! Coupled with a power boost and I might be tempted to put a deposit down.

Hopefully the aftermarket has got good replacements for Mazda 2 power levels by 2017.

How about just ditching the retractable bit and having exactly that as a coupe... yes make it so.

If Mazda did that they would have to compete with the 86 on price and they would lose their marketing differentiator, and so no longer justify a price premium for the MX-5 with "because convertible".

I don't give a crap about such things or the 86 at all, so I'll take your word for it on that.

The MX5 purists will go yuk. The non MX5 purists will go yum.

Just reminds of a Supra. Add 3L/100km on top of the normal fuel economy when the targa roof is down and the back acts like a massive parachute anchor.

Great concept, looks good, and an interesting way of retracting that leaves the boot space intact.
Personally I'd rather the Coupe concept mentioned in a previous thread, but I imagine this would appeal to many.

Really like the side profile but the rear profile isn't at all good looking.

The back window can apparently be folded as well, so that would reduce that problem a bit.

Actually there's no choice, the roof section and rear window fold down as an integrated mechanism.

It also operates at up to 10km/h from the factory!
