Are you addicted to modding?

Postby Magpie » Fri Apr 08, 2016 8:24 am

1. Have you ever decided to stop modding for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days?
2. Do you wish people would mind their own business about your modding — stop telling you what to do?
3. Have you ever switched from one mod to another in the hope that this would keep you from finishing one mod?
4. Have you slept in your car/garage to get an early start to modding?
5. Do you envy people who can mod without getting into trouble?
6. Have you had problems connected with modding during the past year?
7. Has your modding caused trouble at home?
8. Do you ever try to get "extra" mod in because you do not get enough?
9. Do you tell yourself you can stop modding any time you want to, even though you keep modding when you don’t mean to?
10. Have you missed days of work or school because of modding?
11. Can you remember all the mods you have done?
12. Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not mod?

If you answer yes four or more times you have a modding addiction. Welcome to the club :)

Lol at #4.

For me it depends upon the car.
Our golf r32 is as purchased but all the others (there are a few) have or will be modded.

Ripples, my mx5 has had a little done ;)

Bought a mk3 golf cabrio cheap and now have the bits to convert it to a VR6.

The VR6 parts came from a 2 door mk3 golf that I'm considering bringing back to life.

My S2 RX7 has S5 running gear and a few custom bits, like diff, tailshaft but appearance is stock.

I am a big fan of function over form.
Am possibly more addicted to buying parts more so than modding but there is always at least a rough plan of approach :)

I've always liked the term "upgraditis" to describe the urge to modify a car.

When I'm not modding, I'm researching my next mod.
Someone please help.

You forgot this one:

#. Do you spend more time modding your car than actually driving it?

My name is Lokiel, and I am a modding-tragic.

Yes, but I take it out in strange ways since i'm a tight arse.

There's always a few projects at home for restorartion (wheels, stuff like that)
the MG gets silly things like hats for the parcel shelf
and there's a desk inside with a scattering of tiny screws and glass for when I sometimes slap together a custom lens for one of my cameras.

Also reminds me, a few cameras are due to be re-leathered.

I'm definitely addicted, it's cool having a car that's uniquely yours though.

The best move I ever made was starting a car fund where I contribute a set amount every month and accumulate cash to buy the stuff I want (mods/track fees/consumables) to make my mods guilt free :)

When it becomes an addiction it's a problem. I think of all the dills with modded cars often done in poor taste and houses that resemble tips and the wives not having enough money to do more important things in life. Its really easy to spend far too much money on cars. But as a hobby and within sensible limits its fine- like Dan said.

I've done over 60 mods to my NA over the past 15 years! Still going with a new bit on order now and 3 more purchased this year. Keep telling myself I have finished with mods and every now and then drag my other stock NA out of hibernation and give it a run. Always surprises me how mush I prefer driving the modded car over stock!
I don't go for outlandish mods and the only thing I dont like is the rear spoiler which came with the car. Many people would not know whats' original eg the rear metal Mazda emblem off a rotary allowed me to colour code the lettering.
Many mods I have done are my own work such as centre console. Modding a car to me is a work of art and the MX5's just beg for more!

I've got a confession to make... I actually hate modding/working on cars. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am so terrible at it. To me it's a necessary evil.

I just like driving... fast.

The wife happily set this up for me. Any takeaway, un-necessary spending comes out of my weekly allowance. Precisely why my car is still off the road 12 mths later... :(

On the upside since it's been off the road we saved up and bought a house with a bigger shed so it's not all bad.
