Re: Car Prep and Logbook Help
One thing I would add is the scrutineering is incredibly inconsistent. Wakefield AASA events have generally been fairly thorough, down to checking clothing and smelly boots labels (and huge credit to the scrutineers it is a thankless task).
I have been picked up for not having metal valve caps, after doing many events without them. At the same event they didnt check any safety gear whatsoever.
FOSC is pretty weak, I have had to offer to open my bonnet before they waved me through.
The window net is a can of worms. No question, by the CAMS rule book as the MX5 is an open car it is not required. But you will get told you need it at some point, or told to run with your window closed - this happened to me at two different events. ffs what structural integrity does a shatter glass closed window add??? Anyway rather than be told to leave you roll with the punches and just comply.
Verne - well done, podium at your first meet.

It's not about anything structural.
Some scrutineers (probably to be on the safe side) are treating it as a tin top, where you require a net or the window up to keep your arms inside.

No kidding. But if they knew the manual - that it is defined as an open vehicle - it is not required to have a net. And in a rollover the glass will shatter doing nothing to prevent limbs from protruding outside of the cabin.

Maybe they think it's safer in general & in non-rollover incidents.
At the end of the day, the organisers & chief scrutineer can put in place whatever rules they wish, as long as they meet the minimum requirements of the insurer/permit provider.
