Yea that's the crinkle paint for the com cover I was talking about.
But looks like I'll have to take all the bits out first & polish the engine bay first huh?

But the question is black or red. I'm leaning towards red. (But I did ask the question & opinion)
With black hoses & Crome intake..... Error....that would be polished Alluminium which will probably need polishing every so often.

I think I might have to find that Crome rail on the cam cover & put it there. Re rout the tubing.

Blue looks good, but it suits a Mariner Blue. With Patchy being red, agree red would look better, but as you say the blue connectors would also need to be changed or painted. Black crinkle would be ok, but probably prefer red.

When I can, I will paint my cam cover wrinkle blue and my NA is red.

I'm doing it for contrast in the bay but I guess everyone has different views.

Either way, it's better than a dirty stock cover

Huh? WTF????!!! It's supposed to be 190 max?

Initial thoughts were head has been shaved for higher compression in the past.

After doing each cylinder twice I came up with a figure of 210-220 PSI on all cylinders .
I figured that the gauge perhaps isn't real accurate. But the more important part that there is consistency between cylinders.

Original aim was to check if patchy,s engine can deal a head shave. Which by the looks it can.

New found passion for Patchy.

It's been a while a good 7 years since I had any real passion. It's a nice feeling. It's exciting. Almost like a romance.

7 years ago I ripped out cams ECU, roll bar, sticky tyres because I was totally disillusioned with the whole cams & ECU & slightly more serious mods to cars.but also cars in general. i don't blame anyone but myself Big hard lesson for me. There is one thing saying something, another understanding & procssing what's being said. I basically dropped in some mods that came my way without thinking about it first.
Patchy was thrown in the corner & pretty much forgotten about until about 12mths ago when my son started driving her with his L's. It's been quite a nice journey since.
One thing I did like was certain characteristics of the cams had on patchy. I loved the torque & high end reving. Hated the crappy drivability down low.

Let's also keep this in perspective Patchy is not a bullet.
The cams have only added a few hp. Nothing massive. Massive Hp has never been my thing. If it is your thing. Go straight past go . Collect $200 and put it towards your turbo.

The cams went in the same night I received them.
Bit of a process as my light decided to break half way through. I had to use the iPhone for the rest of it. I don't recommend it. Phone must have dropped about a dozen times times.
I did take some photos but the lens was covered in running in lube & are basically all blurry.
Getting the timing right took me ages. I kept on getting 1 tooth off on the exhaust. Anyway I triple checked everything cause the instruction of running in cams was not to turn it over too often befor it starts. Last thing I wanted was pulling down the front again to check timing.

Moment of truth about 10 pm at night. She wouldn't start.
I knew the timing was right. Not sure why she wasn't firing up. Perhaps I forgot to prime the cylinders with petrol
After about the 3rd go she almost fired & finally stated.

With new cams she will not turn real easy almost like running in a newly built motor. Except it only takes a few minutes to become easier. Rolled her down the road to run in the cams. Didn't want to upset the neighbours.ha ha

Specs are similar however in the surface it appears the 935c were more agressive . However I never had them adjusted to 0/0
When I put them in I put them in with the adapt tonic. When I took the adapt tonic out I had adjusted them quite a bit. So I'm not comparing apples with apples. The overlap was far bigger than the current set up of the new ones. New ones will get adjusted once I have adjustable cam gears. Then it's perhaps a fairer comparison. Current ones are far better down low but not as hectic at the top

I did take Patchy for a spin but chickened out going down the Old pack.
I took her down to mooney mooney along the freeway. I just wanted high rpm for longer periods. Then sat down at the bottom of the old pac facing uphill. I got scared. Can you believe it? LMAO
Went up the freeway instead.

She goes she goes she goes. Characteristic at high rpm are that she's breathing nicely. When going from acceleration to deceleration it's not a jerky process. It's real smooth. Revving high rpm is real smooth overall.
With the roof up you can hear the Darth Vader breathing sound from the AFM behind CAI from idle to about 3000rpm this is not possible with roof down.
Idle to 4000 in current set up is noticeably more perky. Best way to describe it is perhaps if you are used to driving a 1.6 & then get get into a 1.8? It's not huge but noticeable although I've already gotten used to it.
Low down is more go,feels more torquey.

From about 5 K the induction noise changes rapidly. VTeck just hit....except there is no VTeck. It's quite noisy and cams become very lively. It's very easy smooth reving to about 7k that's as far as I've taken it. I've never been the type to hit the rev limiter. Call me conservative. It will get there no probs.

The power band from 5-7 is lively I'm sure once the adjustments happen I can make it slightly more peaky.

Currently I would call it lively at the top, With adjustment I should get it to urgent. With the ECU It will probably get it to become a little hectic.
Just so there a understanding of words as they are subjective. If it had turbo power. I would probably describe the top end madness or insanity.

Those super cheap ones aren't that great.

Great to read that you are happy with your cam selection too. A process that made my head hurt probably more than it should.

So I mucked around with setting for a few hrs.
With limitations of maybe OEM ECU & not having increased the CR as yet , I can't get the lumpiness I want without sacrificing drivability. All fun & games

Eventually got some overlap in. It was a case of just try it & see. I ended up with -2 in / -7 ex idle was smooth & driving characteristics were stock-like. I left it at that thinking that's as good as I can get it yesterday

So mucked around some more today.
Advanced the intake holding my breath. Very surprised..... Very responsive revving when just revving up & down.

Took her for a drive. No backfiring more responsive down low & really kicks ass up top.
That's exactly how I farking like it. Except it's more powerful to what I recall. Sooo free above 5 k...

Except when in traffic & rolling along at around 1500 rpm.... Any gear she starts buckking.... When accelerating it disappears Ohhh well can't have it all. I'm hoping it's something to do with the fuel mixture . Maybe I can muck around with the Spring on the AFM & tune it out. We'll see. I love the way she goes. Intake is on 0 ex is on -7

Im sure others have mentioned it but it is such a pity you dont have a programmable ECU - even a older ms1 universal with a home made loom adaptor.
Then you could experiment easily with mixture/timing and see if that bucking is a character of the overlap itself or if its just a very confused stock ecu.

Still, thanks for sharing. Im getting my na8 cams reground soon and your cam experience is interesting to me. Nice to see your cams are big enough to give a positive change to the engine without being too big and annoying on the street.

btw did change the intake from -2 to 0 cause the bucking at 1500? Does 1 deg on the cam wheel equal 2 at the crank or does the marking compensate for that?

Somehow I think it was there at -2 I just didn't pick up on it. I somehow recollect that it was there in a parking lot at the local shopping centre.
I've exposed the timing cams today I can just play around a bit now & check without too much trouble.

The ECU will come. Just not for some time.

Not sure of the air fuel ratio on the AFM Spring will be enough but I'll give it a shot though.
If it doesn't fix it. I'll probably begrudgingly put up with it for some time. Apart from the bucking ,I quite like the way it's behaving.

As far as the crank angle is concerned. I know 1 deg on the cam gear is 2 deg on crank. I would say that because I have up to 12 deg marked on the cam gears it is not compensated. As 1 tooth = to 14 deg .
I'm talking about cam degrees as opposed to crank degrees. Hope that makes sense
