ND new car alignment?

Postby OMY005 » Wed Aug 03, 2016 4:49 pm

G'day, Should I be thinking about having the wheel alignment checked on my car after I pick it up? The big forum seems to think so, as the factory spec tolerances are quite large.

I'll be doing less than 5K a year so having more aggressive settings would not concern with issues about tire wear.

Fulcrum suspension is very close to where I live so I'd be going there unless there is some other suggestions?

Andrew.

Probably best to drive it in varying conditions for a while to see if there are any indications that things could do with a reset.

I dropped into fulcrum on the way home today, $35 to have it checked out. I might do that and then drive it for a while like mentioned above.

Thanks, Andrew.

All new modern cars have a larger variance in their alignment settings. Have you done so in other new car purchases?

I have a friend with a 2ltr and his factory alignment was so bad that he took it to a local shop and every corner was way out! Mine was a demo and seems ok but I am putting Eibachs on it and will be going for a more aggressive alignment after that. Many posters on the big forum complaining about new car alignment so $35 well spent in your case I would think.

I picked up the car on Friday, going to get an alignment check this afternoon, will post up the findings and go from there to see if anything needs to be changed.

Seems like a lot of toe in on the rear Andrew. I would have thought about 2mm would be right...

I'm not really sure of the range it should be? The figures are what they recommended and said something about static and dynamic settings. Open to suggestions though.

The factory range is shown on your chart as +3.6mm /+4.7 -4.7 which is from +8.3mm to -1.1mm (you are near the mid point at +3.9mm)
I thought this must have been a misprint, until I looked up the factory specs for my NB8a. It shows +7mm to -1mm both front & rear.
I'm surprised!

I guess it would be hard for manufactures to get them much closer to ideal as the cars go down the line? And also, most drivers of other cars don't know or care if the setting are out a bit, wear being more important than handling?

Seems like money well spent then.

:?:
There is bugger all difference between before & after, & both are within factory spec. The biggest change was adding 1mm to rear toe in.
