still very conservative at 6.5 psi

How long does the Raspberry Pi dash take to boot up?

Yes still quite conservative but I'm happy with the power at the moment and I know I'll want more in the not too distant future so I can at least increase the boost some more safely.

The Pi takes around 30 seconds to boot up. Not a big deal unless I want to observe something immediately after starting, in which case I'll just pull out my laptop.

I'm surprised the oil cooler will fit between the radiator and the intercooler. Must be a tight fit!

Yeah they are quite close but it's always possible to mount the intercooler even further forward if that's a concern. I unfortunately didn't take any pictures of the mounting positions. Will have to next time I have the undertray or radiator out.

Depends on a number of variables. I wouldn't go off a psi value since it's a measurement of restriction.
I'll end up increasing boost pressure after peak torque to get a flat torque curve and keep it safe but for now I'm happy with what it makes.

Exactly. Also a lot of people seem to focus on the peak power value, which most of the time, especially on the street is irrelevant. I'm focusing more on area under the curve as well as response.

After a lot of trial and error I cant agree more... At one time I just saw the big boasting numbers and got lost in the jungle..... I had an undriveable weapon with the current (overall) set up, now I have a really, really quick joy to drive. Its about the drive, not the destination that makes you smile......I'm loving what your putting together Barton!!!!!

Thanks :D

So I thought I'd post up some info on the flex fuel setup. Sensor is a Continental flex sensor which can be had fairly cheap. A lot of places sell them with their own sticker and a large markup but they're all the same unless there are some Chinese fakes :?
They also use a specific Delphi connector although you can just use a standard Delphi GT 150 series 3 way connector with them if you cut off the outer tabs on the sensor.

I have mounted the sensor on the original bracket that used to hold the purge solenoid and coil pack igniter. Convenient location for running the fuel lines. Fuel line routing is: Feed line > flex sensor > fuel rail > return line.
Some quick connect to barb adapters also need to be used

Image

The rest of the fuel system is stock apart from the couple of fuel lines I changed for the extra length needed and the fuel filter which is a 5 micron e85 compatible Bosch filter. Mount in the same bracket as the standard one however needed to be positioned a bit differently due to the straight inlet/outlet.

Image

Also the next thing I'm adding to the car when I get time is this:
Image

Looks like another turbo but it's a Davies Craig ewp115 electric water pump. Plan is to remove the standard water pump and replace it with one that has the pulley and impeller removed as well as remove the thermostat. Then the ECU will control the speed of the water pump according to coolant temperature using a little solid state relay board that I designed.

Image

The board has two outputs so that I can also control the speed of the radiator fan as well. Still needs a bit of testing before I put it to use on my car. If the circuit ever fails it will fail in a closed circuit state keeping the pump running. The board provides a switched ground for the pump and is activated by a 5-12V PWM signal from the ECU.

No more progress on my car just yet but I did get to install a MS3 in another NA6 last week along with a few other bits.

MS3x ECU with my adapter board. Originally I designed the adapter board to work with MS2 but it also works fine with MS3 as well although there are only a couple of things in use on the ms3x expansion board at the moment. It'll be more utilised later on when things like sequential injection, flex fuel and knock sensor are added.
Image

GM Boost solenoid, getting ready for future turbo. Probably a bit hard to tell but it plugs straight into the purge solenoid valve connector.
Image

Toyota coil-pack loom and you can just make out the Spartan 2 wideband controller in the background
Image

GM IAT sensor so that the AFM can be removed.

Even from your zoomed in photos I can tell that is an excellently presented na6 ;)

Can't wait to drive it more. So much ms information to get my head around!

Thanks again for your help and neat workmanship.

Small update. Not much time to work on the car unfortunately and having to get it back together to drive to work the next day makes it hard to do things on weekdays. A second car would be handy.

First up I installed the solid state relay board I made although not in my own car. Went in Beavis' track car to control the new electric water pump. Seems to work well varying the speed and set up close-loop control for it too.

Image

Next was a new crossflow radiator from 949. Seems to be working very well in this hot weather with coolant temps constantly sitting around the thermostat opening point. Will be able to test it on the track soon and see how it goes. Also revised my oil cooler mounting while I was there.

And lastly a new set of 6UL wheels with some brand new ad08r tyres.

For the time you have to work on it, its coming together well! I’ll be keen to hear how the new crossflow goes (I’ll be upgrading my rad very soon, started looking at available options) as well as the oil cooler remount, (still worries me having mine mounted low down with risk of road debris damage  )

The new wheels look great!

Been quite some time since I have updated this.

Upgraded suspension to a set of Shockworks coil-overs. 9kg/mm front and 7kg/mm rear.
Ride quality is fantastic and the car transitions so well now especially over mid corner bumps.

Image

Sold off turbo kit and have gone back to n/a for the moment.
Stuck a mix of standard intake parts from NB8A and NA8 but found the airbox quite restrictive only allowing manifold pressure to reach ~90kPa.

Image

Moved to an enclosed pod filter with a nice looking bell-mouth at the end which removed the restriction.

Image
Image

Also made a new dashboard display

Image

I've also visited Winton Raceway a number of times and have managed a best time of 1:41.7, only 0.7 seconds off my best turbo time. Obviously my driving has improved a fair bit haha.

Great update Alex. Another question on the Shockworks - did you keep your extended top hats for the rear?
