Cams NSW Supersprint Round 6 Open Wakefiled Park

Just letting you all know that entry for NSW Supersprint Round 6 at Wakefield Park on the 9th of September is open.
According to the form it opened on Monday this week.

Mini car club is doing entries the old fashion way. You fill in the form and either mail or email it to them.
I don't mind doing this, but realistically putting your credit card details through these systems is not exactly considered secure these days.

Note I cannot see the Disclaimer form that the entry form refers to.
I just filled in a general Cams one I had on my PC and sent that instead.

Unfortunately I will miss this round as I'm flying to Canada that same day for a conference. I always enjoy the Mini Club supersprints so I'm disappointed I'll miss it this year. I'm also skipping ARDC's GP round in October as I've entered the Alfa 12Hr Relay on the same weekend. This means that round 5 at south circuit is my final supersprint round for 2017. Class 1B is there for the taking if someone bothers to enter.

Luke, as for your comment about their use of paper forms, your bank 100% protects you against unauthorized use of your credit card details. If your details are somehow intercepted and used by an unauthorised vendor, you just raise it with your bank and they cancel it and go after the vendor. The risk is on the Mini club to ensure they treat your credit card information securely.

As it did not come up on CAMS Event entry I might have missed it otherwise.

What a PITA the old process is. I'm used to CAMS event entry now and it takes just a few seconds.
With the old method I have just had to print the entry and disclaimer, fill in all the information, scan them both then attach the scans to an email and send. About half an hour. With CAMS event entry all the info is there already.
Regarding Credit Card payment, as Guran says, there is no risk to the cardholder.

That disclaimer wasn't there originally.
I think it may have shown up after I told them it was not there. They only had 2 links before, one for the entry and the other for sup regs.
I sent them the correct one anyway.

Have to agree on the entry process. On the flip side I have been told that the CAMS process is a bit of a pain for the organisers.
No scanning for me, Adobe PDF reader has Comment functions in it these days. Type what you want and dump a scanned version of your signature in. I then Print to a PDF printer to make it all read only after that. It comes out much clearer and they don't have to decipher my crap hand writing.

Yes I know that my credit card has protection by the bank. But only if I actually pick up something has gone astray to begin with. For me that would be easy as I only really use it for entries for motor racing events.

This supersprint is a perfect practice day for the MX-5 Cup round 6 at the same venue on the next day.

Have an entry accepted for 9 September in the NB8A as my first event for the year.

I just discovered the earlier discussion on the Nitto NT01s being ineligible for most classes, including 6A.

Any updates on this or do I have to find some other tyres to run ???

Thanks again CAMS for making our life difficult with an illogical ruling !!!

It's confirmed Peter. Nitto NT01 is now classified as a race tyre. Absolutely stupid decision.

Thanks, I will sort through my tyres for an alternate set.

CAMS continue to surprise me with their decisions. I hate to think how much they have cost me over the years. I had to buy Fanta because they ruled the Brown-Davis ROP invalid in our road going MX5s for state rounds, and it was only a great effort by Mike to get them to re-consider, but by then I had sold my road NA6 and swapped over to Fanta.

With the class changes and increasing costs of some events, I think it is time for me to retire from State rounds and enjoy running our trackdays on road tyres, with the odd hillclimb to fill in.

If you are not registered for the championship this season don't worry about changing tyres.
Class' don't matter for non registered competitors as you can't score anyway so rock up with what you have got.
If you are registered then you may have to do something about it.

If its cheap, innovative or effective CAMS NSW supersprints ban it.
I have not heard of Nittos being banned as a R-spec or road tyre in other similar sprint or clubday rod class categories.
I argued with the panel for a couple of months and got nowhere.
I really question why Nitto would say they are "race" tyres to the panel. I don't really believe that to be the full truth. I will have to contact Nitto at some stage to confirm this as they have done themselves no favours if they themselves believe they are a "race" tyre. To be fair Yokohama, Bridgestone, Toyo etc all say "production class" or similar. They don't specifically say road tyre.

They need to revisit one other thing as well. ECU's.
1. How the hell do they know if you have re-flashed an ECU on a standard modern day car these days. Manufacturers are even starting to offer performance tunes themselves through their sport or racing brands.
2. The rules for modified type 2 is crap. Naturally aspirated is allowed to modify ECU, yet forced induction cannot. Again same question as above.

Retuning the ecu on a efi car is equivalent to changing carby jets on a carby car and modifying the advance weights and springs on a mecha kcal distributor. Yes a ridiculous rule.

I'd love to see a class which is a cross between Type 1 and Type 2....

...all modifications are allowed but it has to look like it meets Type 1 rules. Perhaps this is already the case for some, and might be for Type 2 turbos too???

I have withdrawn my entry, largely because a medical condition that has kept me out for previous events has flared up again.
Although I probably could have managed the day, the tyre issues on top of everything else has removed my enthusiasm to run.

A pity because the Mini event is usually an excellent one.

I will try to get up to spectate. Have fun.

I'm not to far off that description.
SE with Exhaust, Coilovers, different wheels and tyres, plus some safety stuff like brake ducts, seat and roll bar.
Any more and I would be out of Type 2.
BTW You cannot change your Air Intake on a Turbo or Supercharged car in Type 2 as well as the ECU restriction.
Pretty much sums up why there are stuff all forced induction cars In Type 2.
Most end up in Time attack against highly modified dedicated track cars.

Going back to the topic of tyres I am now starting to look at the Nankang AR-1's as a possible substitute for the NT01's as they make them in my favourable less common 225/45/15 size for a similar cheap price..
A bit of reading suggests they have both DOT and E codes on them which generally means accepted as a road tyre.
I really need to see them in person to make sure they do not have the Nitto NT01 problem of "RECOMENDED FOR COMPETITION EVENTS ONLY" or similar on the sidewall. That seems to be the main reason NSW Supersprints are not allowing them. I still say they cannot read their own rule, but not getting any where with that.

If they have the codes and don't have any words to that effect, they should be fine to use.

If someone has AR-1's right now on this forum can you confirm the above?

I'm waiting on a price for AR-1. If the price is good I will get them. Since I'm not resistered for the 2017 Supersprint series it wouldn't matter if they are 'race only'.
As for classes, I would favour time based classes as per MX-5 Cup. You can't argue with the timer.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The time based class system used by the MX5 Cup is the reason why I haven't joined the cup yet. The problem is that it favours slow drivers in high powered cars over talented drivers in low powered cars. Both will run similar lap times and hence will be in the same class, but the high powered MX5 will be much faster on the straights, making it impossible for the less powered mx5 to overtake, and will hold up the less powered mx5 in the corners. Even if the less powered mx5 manages to overtake in a corner, the high powered mx5 will easily take the position back on the next straight.

Having said that, I'm very disappointed with the changes in the NSW Supersprint rules re tyres this year, which, in conjunction with the ongoing frustration caused by the badly managed ARDC rounds, has made me come to a decision to sit out the Supersprint championship next year. Despite my opinion above on the time based classes, the MX5 Cup seems to be the best option once I leave the Supersprints, so I'm giving it a go next year.
