As for classes, I would favour time based classes as per MX-5 Cup. You can't argue with the timer.

I've started contacting some people that have AR-1's. So far I like what I am getting in response.
They have E and DOT codes.
They have tread markers
No evidence of any wording about being a race tyre on them.
I still need to have a closer look at them in person to be really sure.
I am so far fairly confident we will be able to use them at NSW Supersprints under the current rules.

My homework says they are allowed in the UK for road registered class' under MSA tyre classification 1B they have over there. They get grouped with other similar Toyo R888R's, Kumho V70A etc. Don't see why it should not be similar here. Unless of course The NSW panel has something against cheap effective tyres. Nitto NT01 anyone.

I'm hoping I would be able to get the latest 225/45/15 for under $800 a set next year when I need them. Must be a new size for them because I've looked before and they were not making that size. Only 195 or 205/50/15. I also noticed that the part number starts with a JD where as all others start with a JC.
Looking at Ebay you can even get a set of 235/40/17 for just over $800. In Yokohama A050 world that would be more like $2000!!!
Even large wide 18's are under $300 a corner. Amazing.
There doesn't seem to be a Sydney dealer that is easy to find so freight may have to come into consideration.

guss wrote:I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The time based class system used by the MX5 Cup is the reason why I haven't joined the cup yet. The problem is that it favours slow drivers in high powered cars over talented drivers in low powered cars. Both will run similar lap times and hence will be in the same class, but the high powered MX5 will be much faster on the straights, making it impossible for the less powered mx5 to overtake, and will hold up the less powered mx5 in the corners. Even if the less powered mx5 manages to overtake in a corner, the high powered mx5 will easily take the position back on the next straight.

I'm half with Guss regarding time based class's for the cup.
I support the idea as it get amateurs involved and gives them something to aim for.
To me personally winning a time class by using a high powered car and driving it slowly would be like receiving a participation award at school.
The pointy end of the MX-5 cup doesn't seem to suffer this. It's real close racing with similar cars.
Winning a competition should be something built around skill.
That's why I like the idea behind one make series with the same hardware, just the costs are always a lot more than they need to be. 86 cup affordable, yeah right.

If you want to aim for a consistent time, not necessarily going flat out, regularity is for you.

NSW Supersprints definitely do not need time class's. No sprint event should have them. It is about going as fast as possible within some sort of defined category. MX-5 club days included.

NSW Supersprints sort of works out ok as there are a lot of class' and types to allow a wide range of vehicles.
And yes like most entry level motorsports there are dominant cars. Lotus Elise/Exige, Porsche 911, Mitsubishi EVO's etc. Didn't stop me taking there trophy away last year though. 8)

Oh yeah, and ARDC rounds! The pre-event organisation and administration has been woeful. Worst I have seen. Being a big organisation they will probably have so much bureaucracy that it will be difficult for them to turn it all around. Yes I consider them a organisation, not a car club.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. This is exactly what happens. However classes make no difference to this as classes are only applied to the results. We are all on the track together. If you had classes based on power or modifications or whatever it would make no difference at all to the actual racing. All it does is create an administrative nightmare.
We go out for qualifying and determine our grid position. We grid up for race 1. The high powered cars are first to turn 2 (Wakefield is my only race experience so far). They pull further ahead up the hill and even further downhill to the fishook. Further again through to turn 10. Then streak away down the straight. So you end up racing with similar powered cars and if you can corner, brake and carry your speed through the corners better you get past them. This would be the case whatever class system you use unless you run separate races for the classes. As long as we are all in together(and we have to be with 15 - 20 competitors) the classes don't matter on the track. It is all applied afterwards. Nobody is there trying to win their class. Everybody is there trying to beat the car in front and stay in front of the car behind. The fun is racing 'door to door' with similar powered cars.

Try $1470 was the equivalent size Yokohama!!! 215/50/15. They don't do 225/45/15.

The linked post is an invitation to people who might like to try the experience of competing in a round of the State Supersprints. Numbers are down, so the opportunity is there for people who are not registered for the series to have a go. More details, and links to the entry documents in that post.

This is also a call for members who are registered to get an entry in, if you are not already entered. You will be supporting your Club in its chase for a fourth Club Championship, and supporting our friends at Mini Car Club who support us by running this round. Mini Club, like our Club and the other Clubs who put these events on, put a lot of money on the line to run them - we don't want to see them lose money on the day.

While all the above is true, the fundamental things are that Wakefield Park is a great circuit for our cars, and these days are great fun!

I look forward to seeing you there, with a great big grin on your face :D

For those that can manage a Friday off too Wakefield Park has a Speed Off The Streets/Test and Tune day on Friday 8th.
It's only $150 if you book online and you get heaps of laps. Great warm-up for the supersprint next day.

Looks like i've missed out as my entry came through the day after it closed.
Even after explaining my mistake, it was a straight response of ' Entries have Closed '.
Very dissapointing as i havn't missed a round this year.
And more dissapointing they wouldn't allow a late entry,
Don't think the event even sold out.

Feel bad i won't be picking up some points for the club.
Hope we get a good turnout.

Wakefield Park turned on a great day – sunny all day, no wind, and a warm track, and a great day’s competition :D .

Congratulations to Keith (1B), Jason (2A), Gus (2B), David J (4B) and Ralph (6A) who all took home Class wins, David also taking the 4B lap record. Luke (2C), David L (4B), Tony K (5C) and Phil (6A) were runners-up in their respective Classes. A big shout out for Keith, who not only returned from an injury time out (as they say), he brought home the Class win too!

Rd7 will be held on 15 October at SMP GP Circuit, and while many titles will be decided that day, not the least the Club Championship, many are already in the bag. For us, if I am reading the scorecard correctly, Bryan has 1B won already, likewise Russell and Gus in 2A and 2B, Scot and David J have 4A and 4B, Phil has 6A and Matt 7A.

The Club Championship will go down to the wire, and although we have a handy lead it is far from a foregone conclusion. We will need as many as possible to turn out to get us over the line. All points count for the Club's score, including any 'drop rounds', so we are looking for a big effort from all our registered competitors.

See you there at SMP on 15th 8)
