pete

unlike most-I am totally on your side and against those who throw good money out the door and mod cars for no good reason but to have a bit more fun. there are quite a few here on this forum....and a few have come in
I think you are right on track and that is the most beautiful RF Mazda to date and in your choice - a real pearl of a colour
if I was jealous -which I am not pete I would have said nothing but I still have my Fiat Abarth and although its only white - one day I might be able to add the pearl to compete

but I think in all honesty - no-one gives a F/ck  especially those who mod

I agree mostly with Pete- the NC is a very good shape - clean and no bad angles- lessons for other makers- but a stretch to call it a classic. The NB is closer to classic because you can see it design inspiration back to Lotus Elan albeit a far better car than the under done Brit. The retractable hard top on the NC is still the benchmark- the RF is not there. Some of us oldies also dont like low rent black wheels- like on the Mustangs- looks terrible. As for silly comments like bloated car that is unsupported by annoying things like facts. Take a look at Z4 or Boxster or 911 etc etc- all heavier cars than an NC. The NC had more KW than NB and by all accounts still a very robust and reliable car. The NC is still no heavyweight and it handles very well.

Not a chance I would buy any ND- epitome of toy cars - no aspiration for grand touring and no luggage space and maybe that reflects how we see a modern convertible sports car- very limited usability and so impractical and fine for squirt around the burbs .

For the record I bought an NA in 2000 when I retired. Plan was to restore an MG or similar. Luckily I got the NA bug and have since done over 60 mods (in my view improvements) to it. Also bought a 1.8 NA 7 years ago. It has 32000 Klicks on it and is mothballed as a replacement for Malibu. I have been waiting a long time for a suitable replacement and when the ND came along I thought that would be it. After many drives of NDs I keep returning to the two NAs I have and it's a no brainer to stick with them. Now I'm being tempted by the RF but value for money, looks etc I would have to look at a limited edition NC auto with roof! To me that's where the old school roadster stops.

I agree with most of this (especially the Black rims comment) but want to clarify my "bloated" comment regarding NCs.

From any angle, the NC looks fatter than the NB at the same angle, it has nothing to do with the actual physical weight.
The NB is an NA with RX7 FD styling cues (ie. more curves and looks like someone has shrink-wrapped the sheetmetal over what's underneath).
The NC is a completely new car whose styling owes more to influences from the Mazda 3 and 6.

As for the ND becoming a classic, I doubt it.
Unlike many others, I love the rear of the ND, including the tail lights, but the front headlights look shiite and have been condemned on virtually every review of the car. The front end looks like something that was designed in this 5 year period and may or may not age well - a classic must look timeless as opposed to "trendy" (yes, that's the proper term all you pretentious designer twats out there who use the terms "On Trend" or "On Point" - sorry, got off track there, just want to smack all those guys in the head).

Have we de-railed this "I've ordered the best-est MX5 ever made and all others must pay homage to me!" thread enough or can we take it further?

Just to clarify, the OP contends that the ND RF limited edition is the most complete MX-5 ever because:

Pete wrote: The RF is a remarkable little car, absolutely perfect in its basic fundamentals, but it lacked all the authentic high end equipment like forged wheels etc.

This is not a coherent argument. The equipment in question is forged wheels and 6 pot calipers. You can upgrade these two components but you can't avoid the elephant in the room..... power, tyres (compound, width), gearbox, clutch, suspension and cooling. If you're going to go beyond the standard factory build on the RF you actually have to recognise where its weak points are. The limited edition is a marketing gimmick. These upgrades represent one of six stepping stones on the path to a track capable ND - at extortionate pricing.

I trust every forum member knows about this video. It's a fantastic video, very thorough and complete. Lol, both reviewers give the prize to the NC as the best MX5.

The best MX-5 in MY NA...this is clear, because it's uncomfortable, harsh, rattles, has no power steering, no air con, no ABS and an absolute disaster to drive around town in traffic. That's what makes it great. Given that it's so horrible to drive and thus doesn't get dríven it'll last forever.

FWIW if I could afford an ND I'd buy an Abarth, but can't. If my wife had been involved and I was sensible it would have been an NC. (I can see why the yanks like it). Lucky my stock NB8A puts a grin on my face.

So, Ruffian, you are saying that it is only money that separates Fwits from enlightened individuals (like Pete)
