RFs seem to be selling...

Postby RBH58 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 8:21 pm

Mazda say that RFs are now 60% of MX5 sales. When I bought mine 12 months ago, it was about 6 months before I saw another on the road. Today I saw 5 different Machine Grey RFs and a Soul Red......in one day!!! They are literally everywhere!

And is there a problem with that?

No...not really. I used to own a BRZ and 86/BRZs are as common as mud here in Aus.

People like a reasonably priced sports car it would seem. Well, at least while they're shiny and new.

modern automatics are quicker now days than manual shift...

plus you can shift if you choose to.

thats if the gearbox on the Mx5 is anything like the gearbox on the Astina SP25.

but for most peppes that also irrelevant.

I'm still waiting for a real metal roof coupe.
If they actually ever make one that is a permanent model I'm sure it would sell. None of this JDM only very small numbers rubbish like they did with the NB.
Should be cheaper as well... But we all saw what Porsche did with the Cayman, charge a premium over the Boxster because its a new superior model.

I don't even want to drive a RF so I'm the other 40%. More weight equals bad to me. Only interested in the performance so softtop it is for me unless the never eventuating real coupe ever happens.

You would have to check the sales figures- so what are the sales doing-ie the current car - dropping? A recent report in the newspaper about a ltd Ed of the RF seemed to be suggesting it was high priced and it is. Lots of competition out there. The article commented that it was pretty normal that a new iteration / version is launched to boost up the initial hit.

The NC was the best concept- a proper roadster with the retractable roof down and still offers security in the car park.

Porsche have now reversed that and the Boxster is more expensive...Cayman is still better though. All Porsches are overpriced in Aus :(

ohhh really?

OK probably a different gearbox as the 3 is a FWD

thats tragic.

not all gearboxes are created equaly. We test deove a Mitsubishi TSM . that was a total piece of crap. Specifically referring the the gearbox

well the RF is just a little different to what you would expect. I quite like the pointlessness of the targa top. and it was pointed out.

but then when it comes to pointlessness....so are 300 rwhp but its cool to have.

Ive not had the plesure of driving an RF....I like it from afar...

I hope the RF and indeed, the ND generally, sells like crazy as I want Mazda to produce a better-looking model for the NE so I can buy one before I'm too old to want a sports car anymore.

How old do you have to be to be too old for a sports car?
