Mx5 Nc with baby seat

Postby Peppertorres » Fri Mar 16, 2018 2:55 pm

Good day! Just wondering if anyone has used a baby in their mx5. I have a 14 month old child. I have a NC Mx5 which hs rhe isofix harness. According to vicroads, if a car does not have back seats the baby can sit in the front as long as they are front facing. Would this be a problem with the airbags in the passenger side? And would police stop me over because of this? I live in Geelong Victoria by the way. Thanks!

I wouldn't be concerned about police stopping you they may or may not.....I'd be more concerned about having the airbag go off & killing your precious package.

Not saying air bags going off will kill your child.....but they can

Yeah it is legal. But do you wanna do it. The airbag shoots out at 300kph if in an accident.

There was a similar question and thread about same subject recently.

I have a car seat in my mx5. Its an NA6 so no airbag. And its a booster seat (over 4 years), so we dont rely on the rear hook much. However where the attachment in the parcel is, I put extra screws as there was only 2-3 spot welds holding the panel together as there are the inspection panels for the tank etc. I also fabricated a backing plate to spread the weight over more area than the washer suggested.

I thought the NC had a switch to disable the airbag (or even one in the seat activated by weight. ???

When looking at the the road rules for child seats, also look for 'the act'. The act is the legal mumbo jumbo passed by the pollies/lawyers etc where as the rules are each states interperatation. For example the act is defined by kgs while the rules are ages.

Chuck them in the back of the ute mate. Never done me no harm, actually I used to ride in the trailer. Too many kids to fit in the car.

I remember when I was a kid there was a woman up the road who used to drive around with her 7 kids in the back of an FE ute.
She was a shocking driver and one day she rolled it on the corner of the street killing at least one child.
It must have been a truly chilling sight to see kids flying out everywhere. Amazing weren't more killed.

Sounds like I need to do the “responsible” thing and sell the mx5 to get a more appropriate car.hehe
