Let the megasquirt tuning commence with a nice solid wideband reading!

Who do you have tee’d up to do the tune?

Had a short shifter installed however the senior partner found the changes too stiff so had to revert to stock.

Now it’s back to how it was - Like stirring porridge with a wooden spoon.

The sacrifices we make....

Chuppa, if you pair the short shifter with a heavy weighted shift knob, all should be well. I'm talking ~400 grams. I use a Moddiction knob, but there are others. The weight makes it much easier to move, while maintaining the short direct shifts.

Tuning it myself. Only N/A so I'm not overly fussed about getting it perfect. Had it driving on a rough tune however the wideband placement wasnt perfect so the readings were all over the shop

Alex Barton from Bartune is helping me remotely with any questions and fine tuning of the settings.

Having to make space in the shed for dodgy day, it was either put the wheel on the shell (required some parts to be reinstalled) or get around to stripping it!

Stripping it won! Now all that is needed is a trolley to move the shell (that is this weekend job). There are a 2 complete sets of NA6 OEM suspension that will be going to the dump let me know if anybody wants them. No idea the KM's on them.

Shell will now be cleaned, roll cage installed and then...

I was surprised that the wiring loom was the weight it was (12kg), I was expecting it to be a lot heavier. However if I included all the brackets etc it be significantly heavier. I may have to weight the brackets...

Where was the wideband sensor located?
Were the erratic readings caused by the O2 sensor being too close/far away from engine or clocked at an angle where condensation would cause issues?
The local fabricators welded a new sensor bung in my headers further away from engine after the merge collectors, as the original bung was placed just after the merge of cylinder 2 and 3 meaning it would only measure from those cylinders. I had it placed just past the final merge clocked vertically so it could measure the combined exhaust from all cylinders.
Curious to know if it was worth it and what the ideal distance from head would be.

I originally had it just in front of the cat as there was a pre-welded o2 port in my high flow cat. It wasnt perfect and the sensor used to rub against the chassis causing the cat to flex away from the headers (no flexi joint in my exhaust system)

When the cat and header gasket split the readings would be all over the joint due to gasses escaping.

The new port is just after the final merge in my 4-2-1 Loch Stewart extractors. Have gone for a few drives to collect data and I'm very happy with it.

Checked the oil.

realised it was SUPER low

Checked the catch can

realised it was SUPER full

I know it burns a little oil, but normally not this much.
The oil in the catch can reeked of fuel, so i'm hoping it's mostly that the couple of cold start floodings have just diluted the oil a bit much and it got past the rings.

I'll service it when I can be bothered, and see how it goes.
If it still burns a heap, well, i guess i'll be off to the wreckers for a spare engine.

Went over the interior with compressed air to remove nearly three decades worth of dust and sand out of the carpets and seats. I have a feeling the PO wasn't one for cleaning the car, the floor mats were so full of sand it took a good half hour to clean each one. They were destined for the bin because they looked completely knackered, look almost like new now. :D

Tip that i've used for years on floor mates.

Vac as best you can, then chuck them in the washing machine on a warm cycle (using your usual washing liquid)

They come out clean as, colours generally a bit more vibrant (since they're not caked in brown dirt), and the carpet pile fluffs up nicely.

Been doing mine like that for years, from the standard black ones, to my 10ae blue textured chequer ones, to my GF's black and white chequer ones.
All come out mint.

Working on catch can, and rad ducting for the SE.

Catch can done, started as an EBoy 3l, had to be opened up, divided into two, top filled with scrubbers, welded back up, and the bungs rearranged. It has lost a bit of capacity, but now fits neatly where the washer bottle was. Cam cover drilled and a 10AN fitting installed, the passage inside also drilled out. Cam cover needs to come off again, the EBoy copper scrubber has now arrived after three weeks waiting - someone is getting a poor rating for that! Hopefully all that will slow down the gas and not too much oil will come out with it, what does will be caught in the catch can.

The PWR oil cooler has been mounted on the intake side rear of the radiator. The SE twin fans have been replaced with a single stock fan. Between this and being a tracked turbo, cooling can become an issue, so the next step was to make sure that all the air coming in the intake goes out through, NOT around, the radiator - cue radiator ducting. I have to say, on looking at the gaps, it is amazing that these cars are not overheating all the time

The rad ducting on a PS and AC turboed road car is a right pain. I have sealed the sides to a fabricated bulkhead in the nosecone, sealed the bottom of the crash bar and underneath the aluminium part of the nosecone (where it bolts to the car near the top of the radiator. The radiator will be sealed to the side, and the last bit to be done is the area where the AC piping runs down beside the radiator. My fab skills have come a long way with this job, now approaching the level of a ten year old! Aluminium angle, pop rivets and rivnuts FTW!!

just to finish the job, Dann is making me an elbow to mate the stock piping with a Skunk TB. I have lost too many throttle plate screws to have one go through the turbo  . When that arrives I will remove the piping and the intercooler, and paint it black - as well as (theoretically) making it more efficient, more importantly it will lose some of the 'come and book me for something' look :(

I'll get some photos up when I take them.

Next stop poly/bronze bushings in the spare arms ... and when they go in, so do the Xidas.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
