Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Lots of things have happened since Feb.
first few weeks were about chasing loose bolts from the solid Hot-side engine mount. It has some more vibrations than standard.
Drive shaft came off..
Rear Brake lost 1 bolt another bolt was almost out was making a real racket.
dash started having lots of rattles. a few bolts got tightened there as well. That relieved the rattles for a little while.
hard top started rattling so the deck plates & Frankenstein boolts all got replaced..although that cant be blamed on the solid engine mount. LOLl
main radiator hose came off...WTF? loose bolts? must have been....maybe not tightened? Had to go & rescue the son....
and so it went for a while. Tune got better & better.
went on some massive runs. Love it
Re soldered all the connections on the COP harness....thank you Speedy
But the past weekend
the rattley NA dash came out
While the dash was out. The Gremlins of aftermarket factory alarms & Central locking was addressed. Seriously...this was nothing short of a shit-mess who ever installed it. There was miles of excess wiring always dropping on my feet when spirited driving was the pastime of the day. Of course it always did strange things.....like switch lights off & start hazard lights and just serious sh*t you just don't want. I'm a total retard when it comes to electronics, Ive always been too scared to address this. Thinking if I cut something wrong I'll never be able to start the car again.....or something.
It took no more than 10 minuted for Nuno to cut all the sh*t out. He knew what he was doing and I'm so grateful. There was also a number of earth wires running loose under there which got fixed up.
Thank you Nuno. I'll be forever grateful
anway we installed the NB8B dash.
there is veitually no rattles. Just the suspension which has obver 200K km & 20 years Koni sports & kings.
anyone up fpr swapping my crap shocks & springs for some Ohlins? For charity? LOL
Ive also got a NB radio to go in once Nuno figured out how to wire it up.
Feenix has become a real pleasure toi drive again
Tonight we have an official ceremony to throw away the old Alarm Remote. as mentioned above I had to have it around for when the alarn set itself off while being dríven in a spirited way....I was always petrified to loos the remote. LOL
bit like locking the key in the boot of an early NA6
Next bg project , cams & front crank seal. watch this space

I would build a bonfire with the remote and leftover wiring.

NB dash looks great STM!
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

yea been looking at
Honda S2000
Saas
Mazdaspeed
The usuual suspect Bride & Spark don't have shoulders wide enough. I got big motherfucking shoulders
Mazdaspeed are exy & heavy though, not paying 1K for a 20 year old seat but its highy unlikely unless I get a real bargain

I kow, the ones in Brisbane I cant afford it just yet. They are also in Brisbane. Postage would kill any decent deal I might get if I tried.
there are also some available in Sydney for about $700? but need converting to the Mx5 rails.

Great work STM
RE seats- I was close to changing mine, but I’ll hold off for a little while longer, it’s going to be interesting to see what you go with.

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
most like;ly either the Honnda S2000 seats....or the SaaS. It will be a little while yet
while these will not be as solid as popper bucket seats they will have a lot more support than the NB8B seats. I think yours are the same as mine.
I
the other problem is that a lot of really wide seats don't fit into the Mx5.
But the shoulder thing needs to be comfortable.

Lotus Elise seats are the answer. Low, hold you tightly, light, solutions exist for putting them on MX-5 rails. I fit, I have fairly broad shoulders. However, these seats are not female friendly.

I've seen a few really good bargains go by, a friend snapped some up stupid cheap, I think less than $500 for 2. But they can also be a bit pricey, ~$1k. I'd add them to the radar at least, if you see them cheap - jump!

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Just sat in a SaaS seat The GT recliner. Perfect for my shoulders. But it’s butt ugly.
I want something leather or fake leather. I want red stitching and perhaps even red bits here & there to bring it out. Cloth in the centre. If that means saving up for a bit so be it. Even if it does cost 2k im not going to spend money sh*t any more. I’m going to get what I want. I just have to learn to be patient.

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
I've got SE leather seats in my NA (black with faded red stitching, seude back). Only downside is you sit a bit higher thus maybe a foamectomy candidate. They cost me $500 pair with no rails (best to get matching rails to move the stalk off the tunnel).
Aren't there difft types/series of Lotus seats with varying comfort/quality? They are getting old and I've seen some real beat up ones. It will cost a bit to custom make mounts or buy the ones manufactured on the forum.
