I’ve got NB8B seats. I feel the need to upgrade . They are far better than the NA6 seats. But I want something sexy. The leather bride seats have been discontinued . But I don’t know the bride shoulder width. Just came across some Buddy Club seats. ......(

SE seats are NB8C. Mine were is great condition, just the slight fade in the stitching (I could fix that with a red marker).
Watchout for clones of the popular seats esp. Bride.
I reckon the s2000 are nice but a bit expensive.

STM, the guy that bought my SP has a pair of S2000 seats that he put in it up for sale on FB. He’s bought a pair of Mazdaspeed seats to replace them. He was asking $700 for the pair, and they should be a bolt in job

I bought some Coil Overs instead.

The old Konis Sports are just simply toast. 21 years since installation. probably 250k Km traveled. The rears make so many klunky noises.
I recon the king springs have sagged at least 1.5 inches over the years.

I should have them today or tomorrow.

seats could be next on the list, or maybe new carpet....lets see in a few months.

They'll hopefully be in tonight.

These are Ksport. Unsure what the spring rates are. unsure of what height patchy will be at. But I think these are the same as Yellow speed & BC's and probably a number of others on the market

You’ll have to put up a couple of profile pictures of Patchy’s stance once they are in :DIY:

Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk

Postby StanTheMan » Fri Jul 19, 2019 8:16 am

Last night when I drove her out of Nuno’s Garage she had a4wd stance. Which had settled down a fair amount by the time I got home. She was maybe an 20mm higher than before. She’s now probably 10 mm higher than before. Which I can live with.
Old vs new. Little firmer ( and that’s saying something) than the old rattle King & Koni Combo. She’s a lot less Craschy , and no rattles or clonks .
Down the line, in between getting carpet , seats, ITBs, I’ll be looking at the extended travel top hats for NA6s. I may also look at spring rates. I don’t know what the current ones are I assume it’s the 8/6 combo but I need to confirm that.

And eventually when everything is right I might consider Öhlins . But that’s a long way off.

The Koni king combo . I literally installed 20 years ago. 250 k km. No surprise it was craschy
At the time , that was the Ducks Guts option.

Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk

Postby StanTheMan » Thu Sep 19, 2019 9:10 pm

Big weekend coming up

Some of it should have been done before the engine went in but it wasn’t . Yea, I had run out of money blah blah . It’s getting done now.

The big boy Cams are going in.
Duration of 238@0.50” 10.5mm lift. So prolly 280 @ advertised? Not sure. I didn’t fit them at the time because I thought the stock cams were better for Blue slipping.
New shims
Cam belt
Runners
Water pump
Crank key
Crank bolt

Can’t wait for these new cams. Engine will be interference so all this is very exciting & daunting

I’m going to enjoy these cams until the turbo goes on . Probably this time next year. There’s are not suitable for cams for turbo I might get my stock cams reground. But who knows. I’m going to enjoy this next stage of the journey.
Then start a new journey.

If you have time, get an audio clip of before and then another after the cams go in. Cams are a bit of black magic to me, you don't hear too much about them being done on MX-5s, at least not turbo ones. I do love a nice slightly lumpy idle though. Keen to see your results.

they were 272/264 @advertised 10mm lift. Patchy breathing like Darth Vader in the B6

then there is this onther video, Patchy has been renamed Feenix I is sporting the new BP4W with standard cams
and some banter with my daughter

cams are very much what gives the engine its character. Although not the only part.

the original cams were Tighe cams and they were super exciting to drive with , once on song it was poetry. The adaptronic wasn't very helpful with drivability in city traffic but on WOT....or close to it . It was opera combined with poetry.

IU ended up ripping it out because I was so disillusioned with the aftermarket ECU. I just didn't know or understand how to tune it. It was the first time I got my toes wet with cams & ECU.

2 or 3 years ago I rediscovered my passion for Mx5 after 6 or 7 years letting Patchy rot. Ive always missed the cams.

this time I got into the mega-squirt & had a totally different approach to things It worked and Ive loved the journey. The B6 got buried eventually . Ive reallky enjoyed the BP-4W conversion. learned a lot.

I'm now dreaming of balancing the rotating assembly & getting longer con-rods with shortened pistons to make it rev like a 1.6 or better before the turbo goes in.But Its really not necessary.....but the 1.6 revved so much better than my current 1.8 even with a lightened flywheel on the BP-4W
