Haven't had much spare time this year but managed to do an oil and coolant change today. At some point I guess Mazda changed the oil drain plug as I still had washers from my previous MX-5 (I never throw stuff out LOL) but not even close to fitting. The new car has a conical seat and takes an 18mm washer and the old was just a 14mm. Little annoying but not the end of the world.

Coolant I did a full flush but it only took about 5 litres (including the expansion bottle) when I was expecting to use 6 litres :?: Maybe the measuring jug I was using is off and actually holds about 1.2l. It does say "approximate measure" on it but I'm going to check just for my own sanity.

Hope to get a few other small jobs done tomorrow.

I find you can never drain all of the old coolant out.
Did you turn the heater controls to ON, as there is always coolant in there (the only time that drains properly is when it rusts out and dumps on your floor).

Yeah, heater on, burped etc. Tomorrow I'll fill the jug and weigh it, see how accurate it is compared to the markings. You're right though, you never get it all out but 1l discrepancy seems a bit much.

Ryan seems like a nice genuine guy, and his car is very impressive. You need to get down to his size if you want to be as fast as him! (And put a supercharged V6 into your car with lot's of aero development  ) I guess he's down there scoping out the scene in prep for his Super Lap Battle event later this year?

Measuring jug seems almost spot on from checking by weight so I don't know, I'll keep an eye on it in case it does somehow have a massive air pocket but I think it's just the difference in what you can't easily drain.

Didn't get a chance to do much today. Put some new spark plugs in just so I know they're up to date and changed the leads over to some Magnecor KV85 leads for a bit of bling and again, not really knowing how old the ones on it were though they look fine etc. Cheap peace of mind IMO.

That's probably all I'll get done before I need to renew the rego in Dec.

Oil change, new oil filter, new air filter, checked tyres and spare. Checked clutch fluid, brake fluid, coolant. Plugs next time. Fit for another 5K. Still surprises me how little there is to do.

That almost hurt :) If it make you feel any better Ryan and Moti (Blackbird Fabworx) did an intervention on me today. The intervention was over "why stay NA", it was actually fun... But, they did make some very valid points that I need to consider.

Anybody have some 17x9" rims that they want to lend so I can test something... I'll supply tyres.

Extracted nearly 30 years worth of I don't want to know what out of my seats.

Replaced fluids, belts, spark plugs, most seals and radiator/heater hoses.

Serviced the gear turret, replacing the insulation and lower gear boot. Installed a short shifter kit and a voodoo style spherical gear knob.

Swapped one of the horns for an after-market type. The sound of which is reminiscent of a 1970’s era family six cylinder sedan. The aural mix of this horn and the other one is horrible and super distracting - just what I want.

Installed generic $50 Chinese double din touch screen head unit. The previous stereo wasn’t working when I bought the car. Am impressed with the sound from the NB speakers.

Not much to do now except drive!

Finally fitted my front lip. I’ve only had it for a few years & don’t like to rush things. Image

Today I fitted my dual tip corns exhaust. It took a fair bit of manipulation to get it to fit, & I’ve still got to go to Mr. Muffler & get a couple of hangers changed. It knocks going around roundabouts. ImageImage

What have you done today/recently to your 5?

Changed a broken sump over. I knew I had a broken sump. I was still shocked to find these massive bits in it . So then a lot more than expected had to come off to insure no other bits were in the crank case. ImageImage

They look great, mate. Still loving your paint job too!

Every time I see up Gina's skirt I have to sit down for a little bit! Glad to see some progress.

Good work everyone. This weekend I swore a lot and finally got my car started again! She's not down on the ground yet, but this was a big relief!
