We did that Tawonga Gap Road up from Bright a few years ago, but in our little RV. Awesome road and stopped at a couple of lookouts with stunning views. Said at the time we should tour that area in the SE one day... thanks for reminding us of the beauty of that region.

Re: Let's chat - tell us about your most recent drive
Only a short drive in the SE yesterday, but it was my wife's Birthday so we went out for lunch (Red Poles McLaren Vale) then for a drive through the hills to Meadows, across to Clarendon and back home. Probably only about 70-80 kms but the SE hadn't moved since February so was good to get it out. Interestingly, with the hard top on due to house renovations (it's usually stored in a spare room inside), the exhaust gets a bit boomy around 3000 revs, something we don't get at all normally. It was enough that if I actually used the hard top I'd need to modify the exhaust to make it more bearable. Luckily I don't ever use the top so all's good. Followed a nice (stock) grey NC1 hard top from Meadows to Clarendon, unfortunately hampered by the all too regular slow and inconsistent drivers around these days that were ahead of them throughought the drive.

Nice one, Kev! I was in Victoria last weekend, went to visit people in Woodend/Macedon ranges and it was beautiful (if busy) up in the country hills. If the weather in SA is anything like it was in Vic you would have had an excellent drive at any speed.
I wished for my MX-5 there. Unfortunately I didn't see any along the roads, mostly the standard SUVs everyone drives, but I did spot an MG and a Z3, both with their tops down, so there is hope!

Beautiful area around there Lachy. Back when I lived in Melbourne I use to spend a fair bit of time around that area horse riding and stuff. Use to be very quiet back then.

I took the Green Machine for a drive yesterday. It was quite nostalgic really, it last ran in mid 2015 so you can imagine how I felt!! It was only a trip into town, but I got $50 for it so that covered the petrol
.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

GM, the image isn't working for me, and I'm not sure what you got $50 for? Hopefully not the Green Machine! A 7 year hiatus, I bet it felt good!

Still no picture for me. Is it just me?
EDIT:
It's my work firewall. I can see it on my home machine. Now I understand

No smutty pictures of stripped bare MX5 shells allowed at work.

I went for a drive up to the Sunshine Coast hinterlands on Monday with a mate. Great roads, over Mount Mee, up Belthorpe Range, then into Malaney and Montville for a steak sandwich lunch.

The only bad part was the being in the highway traffic on the way home. I really need to see about my SE's AC!

Hi Ed
Hope those chains didn’t scratch the paintwork! I’m in Bright at the moment, slipped up to Beechworth today thru Stanley and really sorry I haven’t got the SE with me - great twisties even in the wife’s Cerato!

The big negative of MX-5's. Mine is "OK", but if parked for a while in heat, it takes a while to cool back down, and in stop start traffic becomes only just bearable and I reckon my aircon is as good as these get. Don't know how much better the ND's are, but by comparison to mine my wife's basic Echo is phenomenal no matter how hot the weather, how long it sits in direct heat or how much we're stuck in traffic.

I was more worried about the chains getting scratched, they have this nice anodised(?) finish on them ... where the GM was going, a scratch or two wasn't going to make much difference!
That is nice country! Especially this time of year! I have started on getting the dash back in mine, hopefully I will make progress quickly - rego due early June, needs to be running by then.
